Victims of Crime Compensation

Victims of Crime Compensation

Violent crimes often result in injury to victims. The injuries sustained may be physical or psychological and can range in severity. Victims often suffer ongoing pain and financial loss as a result of their injuries.

In order to assist victims in coping with the ongoing effect of violent crime, the South Australian Parliament has established the Victims of Crime Fund. This fund is managed by the Attorney General. Victims who have been injured as the result of a crime are able to claim compensation from the fund. Legal costs associated with making a claim are also covered. Claims are commonly only made once an offender has been convicted in relation to the offence.
